IBPSA-USA San Francisco Chapter welcomes all to the April 2016 event - Weather Data and Future Climate Impacts.
Presenters:
Ben Brannon - Arup
Benjamin is a professional engineer and building physics specialist. He leads the Arup San Francisco energy modeling skills with an emphasis on computational analytics of non-traditional building design.
Weather files consist of hourly times series of weather variables for a typical year based on historical observations, and are widely used for modeling energy use and human comfort in the built environment. However, since they are based on historical data, they are increasingly inaccurate tools for estimating the future performance of buildings and communities, especially those with life times exceeding 30 years. To address this shortcoming, "morphing" techniques derived from those described by Belcher et al have been used to transform the historical weather file data based on changes, or offsets, in the monthly averages of several climatic variables between a baseline period and a future period, for an ensemble of climate projections. The Weather File Module of the WeatherShift tool provides an intuitive user interface that allows the user to select a city, emissions scenario, future time period and warming percentile to obtain a projected weather file reflecting a plausible future climate.
Neil Bulger - Integral Group
Neil Bulger is a Principal at Integral Group where he leads the building performance team. He has worked on several NZE projects and provides energy, comfort, and optimization solutions.
Neil will present on some of the multi-family projects Integral has participated in where climate data and future climate data where key drivers for façade and mechanical system impacts. The projects will go over how to use simple models with morphing weather data.
Liam Buckley - IES VE
Liam Buckley will present on the various climate tools within IESVE. They include Customization of Weather Variables; Psychrometrics, Mahoney Analysis, Simulation Weather vs Design Weather, and more.
About the Host:
NORESCO's Sustainability Services group offers a full suite of sustainable design consulting services, including energy auditing, commissioning and retro-commissioning, energy & daylighting analysis, LEED® certification consulting, and sustainability master planning. Their San Francisco office specializes in energy code research and analysis and has a long history of working with the California Energy Commission, the California utilities, ASHRAE, and the DOE National Laboratories. In California, NORESCO is currently providing support to the CEC to advance the state's energy code, Title 24, to increasingly higher levels of energy efficiency. Additionally, NORESCO is actively involved in the ASHRAE Standards development process and has written numerous editions of the 90.1 and 62.1 User's Manuals.
Please RSVP Dimitri Contoyannis (dcontoyannis at noresco.com<mailto:dcontoyannis at noresco.com>) if you are planning to attend in person.
