I wanted to follow-up with everyone – we now have an option for you to
pre-pay for the IBPSA-USA dinner with a major credit card through
Eventbrite.
http://ibpsausadinner.eventbrite.com/
A few advantages for the organization:
1. Simplifies the registration process – we’ve had some delay in the
past for starting the dinner program due to the volume of transactions
taking place as our meetings have grown in size. Use of the on-line system
will help IBPSA-USA streamline the registration portion of the evening,
particularly if you are arriving right at the start of dinner.
2. Print your own receipt! If applicable, submit your reimbursement
right away.
3. Feel free to register this way even if you’ve already submitted an
RSVP. I understand there may be some need for flexibility, and several
people have indicated they will stick with cash at the door which is fine.
As we often have to provide some minimum count to the restaurant
(particularly as our meeting sizes increase) this will help us in better
managing our events, as well as reducing the time to issue receipts to cash
attendees.
Cash at the door (both RSVP’ed and some number of walk-in) will still be
available. It would be helpful to arrive earlier during the social hour if
paying using cash so that we have time to make the registration, issue a
receipt, etc.
Please let me know of any questions, and with any special dietary requests
beyond vegetarian.
Thanks!

*Better Building Controls Through Simulation*
Simulation serves many roles in the building industry. For many building
professionals, simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, DOE-2) are a means of
comparing the energy performance of alternative envelope and HVAC system
designs. For individuals concerned with the development of control
algorithms, these same tools are often inadequate because they lack dynamic
system models that are necessary to properly design the algorithms. This
talk will present a number of use cases involving simulation tools and
their application to the development of building control algorithms. The
talk will also touch on tools that can be used to streamline the process of
testing a “simulation-proven” algorithm in a laboratory or field
environment.
*Bio: *John House is a Principal Research Engineer at Johnson Controls
Canada, where he conducts research on control algorithms and fault
detection methods to improve the energy efficiency of heating, ventilating
and air-conditioning systems in buildings. Prior to joining Johnson
Controls, he was employed first at the National Institute of Standards and
Technology and later at the Iowa Energy Center. John has a Ph.D. in
mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.
The Parthenon has complimentary valet parking, and is relatively close to
the UIC-Halsted stop of the CTA’s Blue Line public transportation ($2.25
each way) – take the Halsted street exit and not the Morgan Street exit at
the station. In warmer weather the 1.2 mile walk might be pleasant from the
Palmer House (allow 25 minutes – take a left on Monroe and a left on
Halsted) – taxi cabs will be plentiful at the hotel and at the restaurant
and might run about $5 each way.
Please contact me with any questions related to the meeting. Feel free to
come for the business meeting without an RSVP for dinner.
