Eric,
The overall thermal mass of the building includes a lot more than
just the mass of the roof alone. HAP considers the mass of roof,
walls, floors and overall building contents. In the space properties
there is a setting in the General tab for Building Weight. I suggest
you adjust that value to include the building mass PLUS the phase
change material thermal mass, in addition to accurately modeling
your walls and roofs to contain the correct material layer
properties.

Building Weight

Building weight defines the overall weight of
the interior walls, floors, ceilings and contents of the building.
This value plays a key role in influencing how heat gains are
converted into loads. In general terms, heavy buildings tend to
absorb and store heat for longer periods than light buildings. As
a result, there is more of a lag between the time a heat gain
occurs and the time it becomes an air-conditioning load.

Building weight can be entered directly as a
weight per unit of floor area. Or, you may use the slider control
to the right of the building weight input to specify the weight as
Light (30 lb/sqft or 146.5 kg/sqm), Medium (70 lb/sqft or 341.8
kg/sqm), or Heavy (130 lb/sqft or 634.7 kg/sqm) or any value in
between these standard weights.

information for the M51 material for the roof under the Roof
