    <font size="+1">The tricks we have to play sometimes to get what we
      want.  Sh<font size="+1">eila, s<font size="+1">ounds like you
          have been pushing eQuest to the max.  I have run into this 3D
          problem many times and it seems I have been lucky not to have
          had to have gone to the lengths you have to recover a file. 
          Typically I save the file, save a copy as well, and exit the
          program.  Sometimes I will also shut my computer down and
          reboot.  So far I have always got the 3D back, it seems to
          open on the original se<font size="+1">ttings before I started
            playing with rotations and zooms.<br>
            <font size="+1">That s<font size="+1">aid I have also come a<font
                  size="+1">cross the situation you des<font size="+1">cribe
                    in your "future p<font size="+1">revention"<font
                        size="+1">.  I have never figured out why
                        either.  I do know that when I do a ton of
                        editing without saving and <font size="+1">reopening
                          eQuest I so<font size="+1">metimes lo<font
                              size="+1">se major chunks of work, or it
                              crashes and I lose it all.  So for new<font
                                size="+1"> users, make copious sa<font
                                  size="+1">ves under new file names and
                                  don't do too much editing w<font
                                    size="+1">ithout <font size="+1">actual
                                      saves.  Don't do too many saves
                                      without exiting eQuest and
                                      restarting it.  It only takes a
                                      minute or <font size="+1">2 but
                                        believe me<font size="+1"> it
                                          sure beats losing hours of
                                          work in a flash.  Y<font
                                            size="+1">ou can always
                                            delete th<font size="+1">ese
                                              files later if everything
                                              flies.  <font size="+1">eQuest
                                                or windows seems to
                                                choke when you get too
                                                much in <font size="+1">RAM.<br>
                                                  <font size="+1">So

                                                    recommend Adam's
                                                    solution first, I
                                                    have done that and
                                                    it has worked.  T<font

                                                          program that I
                                                          originally ran
                                                          on 98SE with
                                                          756k and a
                                                          tiny video

                                                          XP with 4Gb
                                                          ram, dual
                                                          screens, dual
                                                          video cards
                                                          with 1 Gb ram
                                                          each, and now
                                                          W7 on a laptop
                                                          with the
                                                          processo<font
                                                          size="+1">rs
                                                          on the same
                                                          chip, 4 Gb <font
                                                          size="+1">RAM</font>. 
                                                          Doesn't seem
                                                          to make a
                                                          difference, I
                                                          still run into
                                                          this problem<font

                                                          occasionally.

                                                          size="+1">couple</font>
                                                          extremely hard
                                                          lessons on

                                  it is copious saves that will save
                                  your bacon.  I do what Sheila does<font
                                    size="+1">, though I haven't tried

            procedure usually solves the problem without fooling with
            the .pd2 file:<o:p></o:p></span></p>

        <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Create a brand
            new project in the wizard.  It does not matter what the new
            project looks like or what info is in it. The new project
            can be all defaults!!!  Just MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT
            WEATHER FILE!!!  Once the wizard has created the new
            project, change the project from wizard mode to detailed
            mode. Save the project with a new name. Close the project.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">In Windows
            Explorer, open the .inp file for the project which has lost
            the 3D view in Wordpad.  Under the Edit tab, Select all and
            copy.  Then open the newly created .inp file as a text file
            also in Wordpad , select all, and paste the original project
            data into the newly created .inp file; i.e. overwrite the
            entire file. Save the .inp file. Close, then open the new
            file in eQuest. The 3D picture should be there. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="color:#1F497D">For future
              prevention:<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">The main issue
            which results in a lost 3D usually occurs in large projects
            when a lot of editing is taking place.  I am not exactly
            sure why, but I think it occurs when the RAM is used up.
            eQuest will use every bit of RAM available on your
            computer!!! As a result, I make a habit of SAVING every 5
            minutes in large projects, and rebooting every hour or so.
            If the 3D picture disappears, IMMEDIATELY close eQuest
            WITHOUT SAVING!  If you save, you will lose the 3D. If you
            have not saved, reboot your computer, reopen the project,
            and the 3D is usually there, but you will have lost any
            edits made since the last save. It’s a toss-up: either save
            the 3D or save the most recent edits…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
