Hi there,
I'm trying to model an old building with an one-pipe steam heating system. One unique thing about the system is that a heat exchanger in the steam boiler heats a storage tank for domestic hot water. I haven't found a way to connect the domestic loop to the steam boiler to prove how inefficient this system is. I'm expecting that the boiler would run much less if the systems were separated, but I need a way to show this. Any ideas on how to connect the two loops would be appreciated. My other question is, since this building has no air-side HVAC, what system should I use to heat the zones? Right now I'm using a 'heating/ventilating' system, forcing the air flow to zero in all the zones, and turning on baseboards attached to the steam loop. Is that the right way to do it?

Thanks,

-- Dane Heimerman
HVAC Engineer
Michael L. Norris& Associates, Inc.
270 Walker Dr, Suite 201B
State College, PA
