The software registration code message typically results from a
situation where
you have
installed an update, but not a complete version of the software - or
perhaps
you have installed an update but not to the proper location. What is
actually happening here is that eQUEST is searching
for a registration code which comes included in the eQUEST.ini file
present in any complete eQUEST install, but since eQUEST updates are
not distributed with those registration codes, they cannot function
alone - updates must be installed over an existing full release.<br>
In the case of eQUEST 3.63b, you must either (a) install the full eQ
3.63b release, or (b) install the full eQ v3.63 release and then
install the eQ 3.63b update OVER the 3.63 release.<br>

Another scenario where this message can pop up is if the software was
installed by a user w/ admin privileges and the operating system is
setup such that the user of the software does not have sufficient
privileges to access the INI file where the registration code is
stored. In these cases, you can try either of the following:<br>
- if eQUEST was installed for "all users" (the default), you can try
uninstalling it and re-installing for "just me" (the current user).
This fixes the problem when machines are configured to provide limited
access to the public documents area.<br>
- configuring eQUEST to operate as a legacy application can be done
using Windows' "Program Compatibility Wizard". Try going to Control
Panel -> Programs
-> Programs and Features / Use an older program with this version of
Windows. Set the "OS eQUEST was designed for" to Windows
2000 and check the box to always run eQUEST as an administrator
(leaving all other settings alone). If your version of Windows has no
option to "Use an older program..." then simply search for "Program
Compatibility Wizard" in the Windows' help system.<br>
