I read your reply to Rick concerning modeling purchased
steam in eQuest. I have a similar building for which I need to model purchased
steam and chilled water. I have followed the procedures that you detailed in
your email to Rick but have a couple additional questions. When I create the
Steam loop, do I have a add a boiler to the loop? Will eQuest perform the
simulation if the steam loop does not have an attached boiler? And for the
purchased chilled water, do I have to attach a chiller to the chilled water
loop? When I tried to run the simulation with a chilled water loop and no
chiller, I get a message saying that the simulation was stopped due to errors.
When I add a chiller to the loop, however, it seems to run the complete
simulation. Thank you in advance for your help.

In a project to go for LEED, in winter, the heat source is steam purchased
from public utility company with fixed rate, say, $5,000/month in
spite of the real heating demand, how to simulate this in Equest? ASHRAE
90.1-2004 stated that "For systems using purchased hot water or steam, hot
water or steam costs shall be based on actual utility rates, and on-site
boilers shall not be modeled in the baseline building design." Is it
feasible to choose "no heating" in the proposed case and do some simple
calculation instead, say, $5,000/month*3 month=$15,000, to generate a result?
