[Equest-users] eQUEST 3.65 7175

Lou,

To answer your question I believe that laptop had a 2 GB graphics card, so nothing crazy by today's standards. If this issue is that the PC slows down to an almost unusable speed when simulating the model I believe that is an issue of too little RAM. Basically, the DOE 2 engine that eQuest runs on is using all the memory available, and leaving none for simple tasks such as emailing or web-browsing. This should only be the case when the model is simulating though, and depending on the size of the model I can't imagine it simulate for longer than a few minutes.

When I ran simulations on that laptop this was always the case. I would hit simulate, then get up to grab a cup of coffee; by time I was back at my desk the simulation was complete.

Anecdotally, I will add that my current everyday workstation has an Intel Xeon and 28 GB of RAM so that isn't an issue anymore. I'm working on a LEED model with over 200 fully-detailed FCUs and the model simulates in about 5 minutes. I'm able to work while the model simulates in the background. This was impossible on my previous pc.

This is just my experience, but I hope you find it helpful.

Best of luck,

Hi Ethan,
Yes, Luis' description is correct. Multi-tasking is the issue. You can't use anything else when equest is running models.

Hi Ethan,

Thank you for reaching out, much appreciated. Do you happen to know what the graphic card specs on this laptop were? From what I understand from Daryl the model runs but trying to multitask and use other applications while eQuest is running is not possible.

Daryl, can you please help answer Ethan's question below?

Thanks,
Lou

Hi Lou,

I used to run eQuest on a laptop that had an i5 processor (2.4Ghz) with 8 GB RAM. It simulated slower, but ran fine. In the past I've come across modeling irregularities that have prevented the model from simulating. Typically this is called out my the program and you get an error message / "simulation terminated" but sometimes the model will just crash.

Is your model crashing / force quitting out of eQuest, or something else? Could you screenshot the error message?

Hello,

We are trying to determine what the minimum system requirements to run eQUEST are, is this something you could help us answer?

We tried running eQUEST on 3 different computers with at least 8GB RAM and all the system resources are being taken up while a running a model. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Lou
