[Equest-users] VRF Performance Curves for Mitsubishi - low ambient heating performance

Hi Christophe,
I agree that there is no obvious way to add supplemental heat to VRF systems in DOE-2.3 for simulating cold climate performance. If you are designing a system and the simulation is showing unmet hours, you could change the capacities of indoor and outdoor units. If it is an existing system and/or the system capacities are locked, you could add heat using baseboards, a DOAS unit, or an additional terminal unit in an adjacent zone separated by an air wall. You can add energy to represent electric resistance heat in the Miscellaneous tab of the Condensing Unit (as crankcase or auxiliary power) but it will not add actual heating capacity to the unit.
Regards,
~Bill

Hi Bill,
I have worked with the eQuest 3.65 build 7175 and DOE 2.3 for VRF modeling.
I have an issue with VRF control:
The model was for cold climate conditions and VRF was supposed to be cut out for another heat source around -15 C. To compensate VRF capacity before -15 C I had to have another heat source supplying too. This kind f behavior can be managed in DOE 2.2 in the heat pump settings. As for DOE 2.3 I didn’t find this kind of options into the VRF tabs.
Did you encounter this kind of problem? If yes, how did you manage it?
Thanking you in advance,

Hi Bill,
We are using eQuest v3.64. So I would appreciate if you can send me those files.

Hi Ömer,
If you are using the newest eQUEST running in DOE-2.3 (version 3-65 Build 7175), there are no custom manufacturers VRF curves available to the public, to my knowledge. If you are reading this and you work for Mitsubishi, Trane, Daikin, LG, York or Hitachi (or if you manufacture VRF equipment but I didn’t list your company) – this is a missed business opportunity and you should contact me!
I would recommend you use Build 7175 in DOE-2.3 mode if you have VRF systems to model, as VRF capability was specifically added and none of the DOE-2.2 workarounds are required (though there is still no built-in capability for water-source VRF).
If you have a DOE-2.2 model and would still like access to the workaround by Mitsubishi, let me know and I’ll email the files that I have archived.
Best regards,
~Bill

Dear All,
Would somebody kindly point me to where I can find the performance curves for VRF systems released by Mitsubshi. I have searched previous postings and looks like they were previously shared as email attachments, but I cannot download those attachments.
Thanking you in advance,
