[Equest-users] Water Cooled VRF in DOE 2.3

See also some of the threads I've posted over the last couple weeks (other names include Bill & Doug). I've been pretty open-book about my thoughts and questions as I've started tinkering with the new tools in front of us.

Bill along the way provided a pretty important patch/fix to be mindful of before the next public release, which I expect will likely incorporate that missing piece of the interface.

All that said, I'm not certain whether the new capabilities are in their present state well-suited for a water-cooled VRF system... that would be a good question to send to Doug in advance of his webinars to (hopefully) address... I haven't been involved myself in a real-world case of water cooled VRF myself*, but if the actual system isn't accomplishing intra-zonal heat sharing I speculate that you might be better off using water source heat pump systems, and perhaps modifying the WSHP/GSHP library curves to approximate VRF turn down performance?

* A diagram sketching out the layout of the hydronic loops, condensers, interior units, and refrigerant lines might be a helpful setup for posing the query to both Doug and the rest of us.

Hi Matt,
My suggestion is to give the new VRF capability a try, and to sign up for the free training being offered by Doug Maddox. He provided the information below in an email 11/16/2018.
Regards,
~Bill

I will be presenting a short series of free one hour webinars on new features in the recently released eQuest/DOE-2.3 programs:

Thursday, November 29, 4 PM Eastern Time: HVAC Design Sizing
Thursday, December 6, 4 PM Eastern Time: Dedicated Outside Air Systems and Series Chillers/Boilers
Thursday, December 13, 4 PM Eastern Time: Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems

I have been working with J. J. Hirsch & Associates for the past several years to develop and test these new features, and I am excited to share them with the community!

The webinars will have limited capacity, so please Email me at doug at maddoxenergy.com<mailto:doug at maddoxenergy.com>, if you are interested, and I will send the webinar login information to you.

I plan to share the presentations online afterwards, for those who are unable to attend.

Thanks,
Doug Maddox, PE, CEM

Hi Folks,

Has anyone had success using VRF in DOE 2.3? I've got a project coming up that is very likely going to use a water cooled VRF system tied to a campus CW loop. Any advice would be appreciated!
