Hi Patrick,

I imported Revit model into eQUEST by referring to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTp9__t9Ni4

you can begin from part 1. It works for me at this moment, I completed the building geometry, envelope construction and input internal loads.

Everyone, I had a little time this summer to check this out, and I was not happy with the results. The building volumes may match but there were some serious floor, roof and lack of adiabatic wall issues. The model results did not seem to grasp the concept of a complete volume with all sides, a top and a bottom. There were many sides, tops and bottoms missing. It took more work to put those pieces back in than to make the model from scratch.

The person I had working on this issue was familiar with Revit and tried very hard with the Revit tools available to create a file to send to the Green Building studio that would generate all the walls, tops and bottoms and he couldn’t do it. We finally gave up. It is odd, because all the coordinates show up in the gbXML file, but for some reason the Green Building Studio model is quite content to leave the interior floors and ceilings blank along with some interior walls.

My conclusion was, Revit and the Green building studio grasp the concept of exterior surfaces well, but do not understand how to model interiors, especially floor to floor.

My opinion.

Thank you for your input Bill, very much appreciated.

I’m always looking for ways to save time in the modeling. Having a reliable way of importing an architectural model into eQUEST would most likely go along that way.

I’m wondering what’s the level of success of this method and how exactly the zoning would be done.

I’ll try to look a little more into this.

We have a reliable DOE-2, E+ and gbXML export from both GBS and Insight 360 of the Revit Energy Analytical Model. There are several energy settings options which you can specify in creating this model. Though the surfaces/geometry from architectural model may be broken-up or consolidated in the model creation, it is within 1% of the total area/volume.

If you need any assistance with workflows to facilitate this process, let us know.

Thanks, -krishnan

Hi Patrick,

I received the reply below from Autodesk regarding exporting from Revit. I have not tried it and will leave it to others to comment on their level of success with the workflow.

I don’t believe the feature for direct import from REVIT is a priority for the eQUEST development team.

Regards,

~Bill

Subject: [Equest-users] Revit importation

Hi everyone,

Is anyone aware of a way to import a 3D model from Revit directly into eQUEST?

I’ve been using version 3.64 of eQUEST and as far I as know, it’s impossible in that version (aside from extracting 2D plans and importing them into eQUEST). I was wondering if a newer version of eQUEST could get the 3D job done with a straight importation from Revit (it would be a true blessing).
