[Equest-users] Underfloor Heating Design

PS: I'm now seeing a point of possible confusion: I might have misunderstood the original query.

EDR has more to say about procedure concerning underfloor air distribution (UFAD), and less to say about radiant slab heating, IIRC.

The FPH system type I'm suggesting below is an approach suited to the latter case. EDR's guidelines are a better starting point for the former case.

So... funny story?

I've approximated radiant cooling and radiant heating slabs with a variety of approaches (EDR being one such helpful resource - more advice is contained in the archives for these mailing lists)... but I more recently stumbled into a very simple, not-so-well documented system type that has been around for a while but never caught my eye during a project in development. I would give this a try next time I'm in your situation involving radiant heating only:

Volume 3: Topics > Air-side System Types > SYSTEM Type = FPH
[cid:image003.png at 01D244AA.AEECCF90]
See also: Volume 2: Dictionary > HVAC Components > ZONE > Heating Equipment / Sizing > Floor Panel Systems for a zonal input of interest.

This is accessible in the detailed interface at the airside dropdown as System Type: "Radiant Slab."

Not to get anyone's hopes *too* high up: this appears specifically designed to tackle radiant heating only, but this option could certainly have saved me some efforts in the past where I was unnecessarily "dummying down" more complex system types to match reality.

Highlighting: FPH has zero capacity to deal with mechanically driven outside-air ventilation (or general air circulation)... No fan system power inputs anywhere. If ventilation is driven in via the likes of zonal restroom exhaust however, this might be the perfect system for your explicit modeling needs!

Also for a multi-zonal system as illustrated (primary/secondary pumping), I'd want to further explore whether it's necessary to define a ton of secondary pumps/loops on the hydronic side (assigning unique loop/pump pairs to individual zones), or else to what extent those secondary zonal pumping energies are automatically modeled without further system/zonal inputs (I'm not aware if they exist)... the doe2 reference manual entry is a little vague on this front.

Hi!

Hope you're all doing great!

I was trying to model Underfloor (Hot water) Heating for Restrooms in a single story Housing apartment.
Would you know if this can be modelled ? If yes, kindly share the approach.

If it's not possible, what would you suggest as a best work around approach to model this.

Best Regards

Kumar
