[Equest-users] Surfaces of buildings as building shades

Definitely an option.

Actually, you have two options with some nuance: BUILDING-SHADE & FIXED-SHADE. The former will move/rotate with the building if you adjust top-level X/Y/Azimuth inputs. The latter will not (i.e. a large tree/cliff face/neighboring buildings “fixed to the site” that should not move about).

Both are accessed in eQuest via right-clicking the top-level “Project” item in the component tree, while under the Building Shell tab. If you have the 3D view up first, it’s easier to visualize what your shade looks like as you adjust geometric inputs. You can optionally assign a fractional schedule to a shade component (which could for example account for a tree dropping its leaves in the winter).

Hope that helps you get started!

Subject: [Equest-users] Surfaces of buildings as building shades

To whom it may concern:

I remember that a couple of years ago DOE-2.1.e had an option to add surfaces to simulate building shades (or even trees). Is there any information to replicate this in eQuest 3.65? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated!

Kind regards,

José Luis Bermúdez Alcocer, Ph.D., M.Arch., B.Arch.
