I think this would be great, ideally we could have a map with pins which showed the locations of all who are signed up and perhaps their email addresses (or a list of addresses per city). That way we could all easily zoom in and find other simulation professionals

As another member of the IBPSA-USA Editorial Committee, I would also express my strong support for IBPSA-USA to establish an online directory of Bldg Simulation professionals. Back in the old days when LBNL's Simulation Research Group maintained the quarterly User News up until 2001 or so, that newsletter maintained such a list, although the numbers of simulation "experts" was quite small,

Elizabeth, I took the liberty of forwarding this e-mail thread to the IBPSA Board to stimulate more response and comments from other Board members.

As your friendly neighborhood IBPSA-USA Website/Editorial Committee chair, I would definitely like to make this happen!

It has been discussed of course, though we need to resolve a few questions -- like, we need to get IBPSA-USA members to "opt in" to allow their info to be public, decide what info is shared, who can access this info (members only or the world?), figure out how to automate/maintain it (we don't have the resources that ASHRAE does), etc., etc.

If I could get a volunteer/committee member that could champion this for us, we could likely get it done pretty quickly.... (hint hint, nudge nudge)

Let me know if you are interested!

Before I jump on this rabbit trail – Malik you might try Chris Jones in the Toronto area, as a starting point. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with him before and he occasionally posts here on the lists as well. If he isn’t immediately available for something like 1-on-1 training, he have some referral suggestions for that particular region. Hit me up off-list if you’d like some other recommendations for remote trainers.

To the matchmaking/mapping idea – this is a fantastic thought!

Here’s a cursory attempt at what I’m visualizing… I downloaded the complete current listing of BEMP professionals from here<http://report.ashrae.org/Certification/list?type=BEMP> (there’s an ‘export’ to CSV link at the bottom of the page), then uploaded the first 250 entries (that’s a limit for “free” accounts) to batchgeo.com<http://batchgeo.com> and came up with this: https://batchgeo.com/map/0f57af99a70da19d7d273e595a64a5dd

It would be a little more useful (particularly for larger regions) if I could somehow lookup the address for the listed companies with each individual – at present everyone is grouped by State/Country, so you can for example click on New York State and cycle through the 18 entries uploaded.

Also it would be great to pick up more than the approximately 400 BEMP individuals for a tool like this. Perhaps there are more databases like the BEMP listing we could add to the pot – does IBPSA maintain a similar (& public) member directory with company location information or similar? I think Julien is right in that even the IBPSA membership wouldn’t hit all the marks (the KC area doesn’t have a chapter yet), but between these I think we’d be at a solid starting point. I think at one point there was a similar initiative with energy-models.com<http://energy-models.com> to develop a ‘trainers’ directory – maybe Bob can fill us in?

Boom!

I'll add "expert in googling stuff up" on my resume right away (that's actually a useful skill on this day and age).

Anyways, this brings up a somewhat simple idea that might have been implemented already - I'm just not aware of anything like it, please point it to me if you have found something.

The local IBPSA chapter is likely the way people have met real life energy efficiency professionals in the past, but from experience both on the US side and in France, it seems like it's very developed and active in only select part of the world.

How about creating a database/map of professionals in the world? One could simply georeference himself and see who's around, kinda like a dating site but for geeky/passionate convos about thermal equations?
