[Equest-users] sloped roof

Hi Kelly!

What you're describing is achievable in detailed mode using the 'tilt' variable for any given surface (including roofs). Bill Bishop recently posted a response on the topic with a visual, attached.

If you're in the wizards, the options for non-flat roofs are limited. For a shed type roof, I think you'd save the most time:

1. sticking with a flat roof in wizard shell dialogs

2. use any option but "system per zone" for the top floor HVAC system(s), if possible ("system per zone" results in a segmented plenum and many small roof surfaces instead of one common plenum/roof surface)

3. in detailed mode, modify the roof surface tilt property to your liking (3D view helps)...

4. if it tilts from the wrong axis to start - you'll have a bit of extra work to do, you may find the attached discussion helpful to come up with some ideas... If rectangular you might find it easiest to try toggling which vertex of the space polygon you're defining the roof from (using a height/width instead of using a polygon) - this varies which space polygon edge is the tilt axis.

5. Modify the height property for the "high" wall surface where the roof edge is highest to meet your roof

6. Create or modify the polygons used to define the sides if you wish, to make them triangular surfaces

As with any detailed geometry edits - save separately and often! It's entirely in your power to make the house of cards fall if you create the wrong conflicting geometries ;).

This isn't a procedure for total beginners - if you or anyone else reading are creating your first few models, I'd would advise a simplified approach.

I continue to advise modelers of all skill levels to carefully consider whether a tilted roof cannot be well-approximated by a flat roof, as this is the case in many instances.

Subject: [Equest-users] sloped roof

I am trying to create a sloped roof on a one floor building. The front façade is 34 feet and slopes to the back façade of 22 feet. Is there a way to create a sloped roof for this building?
