As Bill alluded, you will also want to explore using another software
package to model how your open-loop system's ground water temperature
will vary over the year, and use those results to create a
monthly/weekly (daily, if you're really motivated!) temperature schedule
for eQuest to use on the LAKE/WELL exchanger.  Going into this, you will
need to have ready your monthly loads incident on the loop, and any
other parameters you have regarding the GLHX design (area available on
the site, ground properties, etc...). There are free options like
GS2000, though I'm not sure whether that specific tool can really handle
the behavior of an open loop system - you might need to invest in a more
sophisticated (and thereby "for-cost") solution...  

 

If anyone's aware of a free or commercially available software package
that can model such open systems (which I suppose would necessitate
specifying the direction and rate of annual groundwater flow - for which
I'm not sure where you'd have to look for that historical data) I'd
personally be very interested to learn about it!  The only option I'm
aware of for explicitly modeling this behavior for your energy model is
to hire out a specialist with proprietary software (who will go on to
design the loop system and assume liability for the design) - here's the
only name I've picked up with this service:

Nick,

In DD edit mode you have other options for the Ground Loop Heat
Exchanger. Choosing LAKE/WELL allows you to specify the loop temperature
(or default to monthly ground temperature) via a LOOP-TEMP-SCH.

Hello,

 

Could someone please guide me on the best way to model a ground water
heat exchanger with supply well and diffusion well?  I see that GSHP
Plant equipment in the DD wizard only allows for a vertical well field,
and this is not really applicable.
