Merely another suggestion (though delayed) -- For peak shaving one
could also consider
TES (Thermal Energy Storage) or Phase Change Material (PCM) based
systems!<br>
For cooling dominated buildings, most often the night time use of HVAC
equipment (to store) may make it more efficient due to lower ambient
temperatures to reject heat.<br>
Plus, you could claim energy cost savings with a TOU tariff structure
like Vikram mentioned in the EAc1 credit calculations.<br>
<br>
On the other hand, with respect to the question you asked -- if
the generator (not TES) is an on-site renewable source of energy (say
Solar PV) then the credit should be claimed in the EAc2 documentation.<br>
In this case, the documentation for EAc1 shall merely "quote" energy
generation figures and energy cost averted due to the renewable fuels,
calculated as per </font></font><font size="-1"><font face="Arial">EAc2
credit calculation / submittal.<br>
Of course, one could use standard simulation tools for EAc2
calculations.<br>

know, you can take
credit for this for LEED EAc1. The credit is based on energy cost and
not BTUs,
so assuming you have a TOU rate structure, you should show some savings
there. There are potentially some significant environmental benefits
from peak
shavings too – most utilities have larger plants that run full time for
a
base load. They then supply the additional loads with peaking plants –
either natural gas or diesel powered. Cutting demand reduces the need
for
peakers to come online. </span></p>
