The workshop is<BR>being lead by Dr. Mahabir Bhandari of DesignBuilder Software (USA) and James<BR>V. Dirkes II, P.E., LEED AP of The Building Performance Team. Both personnel<BR>have extensive experience in the use and teaching of building energy<BR>simulation programs. Participants will use the DesignBuilder/EnergyPlus<BR>suite extensively over the two days. <BR><BR>Day1 will be focused on developing building geometry with DesignBuilder,<BR>importing from 2D-DXF and 3D gbXML import from CAD. Various DB features,<BR>including complex geometry, template and Model Data Management, Schedules,<BR>Heating Design, Cooling Design, Simulation options, parametric runs will be<BR>discussed.<BR><BR>Day2 will be focused on modelling systems using EnergyPlus. A simple<BR>5-zone model will be exported from DesignBuilder to EnergyPlus. The native<BR>IDF Editor will be used to modify and expand DesignBuilder's standard HVAC<BR>system templates to better reflect the desired HVAC system. A series of<BR>HVAC design upgrades will be tested. These could include, adding AHUs,<BR>supply air reset control, VSD drives, low turn down ratios or upgrading air<BR>cooled to water cooled plant. The model will be modified to meet ASHRAE<BR>90.1 Appendix G requirements<BR><BR>This workshop is a great opportunity for training staff in predicting the<BR>energy/greenhouse performance of buildings. These skills would be<BR>invaluable in the current tough economic climate juxtaposed with increasing<BR>concern about global warming.
