Actually Ronan's suggestion to model it within ModelIT isn't so daft,
just depends who tricky the shading devices are. You could make them
as a seperate model within the component modeller. Then export a gem
file of that component out. Then import that gem file into your model
and copy it about. That way it becomes a room within your model. Then
copy the whole model as an obstructions file and delete out the model
rooms you want to study and save. Then go back into your original
model. Delete the obstructions from the original model and then add
the obstructions file. Seems a little long winded, but with the gem
file it means you can do small scale stuff in the component modeller
and then import it more easily into models.

Alternatively, if they are relatively simple you could set up a
parameter within the glazing itself (ie. overhang, balconies, side
fins, etc in a much simpler way). You wouldn't visualise their effect,
but the thermal model would take it into account.

Personally I'd avoid gbxml complicated elements as far as possible as I
think it's a bit flaky when models start to get very complicated. For
the simple room shapes, etc should be fine, but beyond that it has a
tendancy to "lose" things.
Hello,

I am working on daylight analysis (IES and ECOTECT) for a mid-rise
residential. The architectural design has a special shading for
windows, which we had to create as a custom Revit family. I am trying
to export this family to gbXML to work in IESve; but the shading
doesn't go through gbXML. Does anyone have expereince on this issue?
How should we create the family so that it easily get exported to
gbXML?

Can we add a "Room Bounding" parameter to a Revit family from
Family Editor?

Many thanks,
