Dear all,
Karpman Consulting is offering several web-based training courses at no
cost to you.
*213: Integrating Performance-based Compliance into the Design Process
<https://karpmanconsulting.net/213>*
*4 AIA LU/HSWs, 4 NY DOS In-Service Hours*
November 2025: November 18th, 2025: 11:00am - 1:00pm, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Eastern

The training illustrates the use of energy modeling following the framework
of ASHRAE Standard 209-2018 – Computer Simulation Aided Design throughout
design development, including the schematic design, construction document,
and compliance documentation phases. It focuses on design decisions made at
different stages of design that may lead to projects failing to comply with
code using the performance path, such as envelope design not meeting the
envelope backstop, ventilation rates exceeding minimum code requirements,
inefficient ventilation system design, and impact of space and service
water heating fuel source on compliance. The training includes examples of
designs that may not meet code due to recent changes to Standard 90.1 and
additional requirements in 2020 NYStretch Energy and 2020 NYC ECCC. While
the training focuses on the 2018 edition of Standard 209, a summary of
updates in the 2024 edition is covered.
*110: Performance-Based Compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2016
<https://karpmanconsulting.net/110>*
*8 AIA LU/HSWs, 8 NY DOS In-Service Hours*
December 2025: 12/1, 12/2, 12/3, 12/4 1:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/webappng/sites/karpmanconsulting/webinar/webinarSeries/register/b7271e17cafd4480a73da64eeea9aca4>
The training provides an in-depth review of the 90.1 Energy Cost Budget
Method (Section 11) and the Performance Rating Method (Appendix G)
including the modeling rules for building envelope, HVAC, lighting, service
water heating, and miscellaneous equipment, the 90.1 mandatory provisions
that must be met by all projects, and the compliance calculations. It
highlights similarities and differences between the two compliance options
and discusses their applicability to special cases such as renovations,
core and shell and tenant fit-out projects; and building systems such as
renewable energy, combined heat and power (CHP), district heating and
cooling, refrigeration and other commercial and industrial equipment. The
training also covers the changes to ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Section 11 and
Appendix G introduced in the 2020 NYStretch Energy Code and in the 2020 New
York City Energy Conservation Code.
