The training illustrates the use of energy modeling following the framework
of ASHRAE Standard 209 – Computer Simulation Aided Design throughout design
development, including the schematic design, construction document, and
compliance documentation phases. It focuses on design decisions made at
different stages of design that may lead to projects failing to comply with
code using the performance path, such as envelope design not meeting the
envelope backstop, ventilation rates exceeding minimum code requirements,
inefficient ventilation system design, and impact of space and service
water heating fuel source on compliance. The training includes examples of
designs that may not meet code due to recent changes to Standard 90.1 and
additional requirements in 2020 NYStretch Energy and 2020 NYC ECCC.

*110: Performance-Based Compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2016
<https://karpmanconsulting.net/110>*

*8 AIA LU/HSWs, 8 NY DOS In-Service Hours*

October/November 2024: 10/29, 10/30, 10/31, 11/1 2:00 - 4:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/webappng/sites/karpmanconsulting/webinar/webinarSeries/register/dbfa2d7f67864d778a81084e031f012c>

December 2024: 12/3, 12/4, 12/5, 12/6 1:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/webappng/sites/karpmanconsulting/webinar/webinarSeries/register/8967ba57507045beb3e33e973f3efa0a>

The training provides an in-depth review of the 90.1 Energy Cost Budget
Method (Section 11) and the Performance Rating Method (Appendix G)
including the modeling rules for building envelope, HVAC, lighting, service
water heating, and miscellaneous equipment, the 90.1 mandatory provisions
that must be met by all projects, and the compliance calculations. It
highlights similarities and differences between the two compliance options
and discusses their applicability to special cases such as renovations,
core and shell and tenant fit-out projects; and building systems such as
renewable energy, combined heat and power (CHP), district heating and
cooling, refrigeration and other commercial and industrial equipment. The
training also covers the changes to ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Section 11 and
Appendix G introduced in the 2020 NYStretch Energy Code and in the 2020 New
York City Energy Conservation Code.

*210: Compliance Documentation for ASHRAE 90.1 Section 11 and Appendix G
<https://karpmanconsulting.net/210>*

*2 AIA LU, 2 NY DOS In-Service Hours*

October 2024: October 22nd, 2024 2:00 - 4:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/weblink/register/rc201c9d7428d1d4cd81b7f9b2108bd94>

November 2024: November 20th, 2024 1:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern

December 2024: December 10th, 2024 1:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/webappng/sites/karpmanconsulting/meeting/register/42ccab2e0be84816adf785039299a4d1?ticket=4832534b0000000730437be4caa335400dba2c25e8ac65f62d7952ccae5a2cbc05e5b25815bcddac&timestamp=1724939767256&RGID=r215a2c70866d489ad419006be411770d>

The training explains ASHRAE 90.1 reporting requirements for projects that
use Section 11 or Appendix G, and the supporting documentation that must be
submitted to code officials or beyond-code program administrators. It
provides instructions for filling out the DOE/PNNL Compliance Form
<https://www.energycodes.gov/ashrae-standard-901-performance-based-compliance-form>
that
can be used for documenting minimum compliance with 90.1 2016, NYC ECCC
2020, LEED v4.1 and LEED v4 Pilot Alternative Compliance Path, the EPA
ENERGY STAR program for new multifamily buildings, and various incentive
programs. The training covers productivity tips, efficient workflow, common
mistakes, and best practices.

*212: Review of the Modeling-based Submittals for ASHRAE 90.1 Section 11
and Appendix G <https://karpmanconsulting.net/212>*

*8 AIA LU, 8 NY DOS In-Service Hours*

December 2024: 12/17, 12/18, 12/19, 12/20 1:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern
<https://karpmanconsulting.webex.com/webappng/sites/karpmanconsulting/webinar/webinarSeries/register/6b20fc45b35c4b479e323cd9c3ed9c1e>

The training focuses on strategies for conducting effective and efficient
reviews of modeling-based submittals and is based on the DOE/PNNL Submittal
Review Manual <https://www.energycodes.gov/performance_based_compliance>.
It explains how to identify the impactful building systems and components
to help prioritize the review, and demonstrates the process of confirming
that the modeled building systems and components reflect design documents,
that the baseline design model follows 90.1 modeling rules, and that the
compliance outcome was established correctly based on the energy modeling
results. It also discusses how to use simulation reports generated by
popular energy modeling tools in the review process and demonstrates the
features available in the DOE/PNNL 90.1 Performance Based Compliance Form
<https://www.energycodes.gov/ashrae-standard-901-performance-based-compliance-form>
to
facilitate and automate submittal reviews. In addition, the training goes
over the review checks applicable to projects following the 2020 NYStretch
Energy and 2020 NYC ECCC.
