Technologies and Considerations for HVAC Systems in a Pandemic.

Description:
The pandemic has led to finding new and innovative technologies to reduce the spread of virus indoors. ASHRAE and the CDC, among other public health organizations, recommend a combination of air filtration and increased indoor ventilation for buildings. However, the added filtration and increased ventilation can lead to higher energy use in the buildings and impact longer-term system performance. This IBPSA NYC session will look at a few technologies and discuss the energy use impact of air filtration / increased ventilation and ways to account for the impact in energy models.

Presenters:
1. Walter King<https://www.linkedin.com/in/walterking/>, Northeast Director, Aircuity: Walt will discuss air quality monitoring and its role in data-driven ventilation strategies. He will present examples validating the old adage: "you can't manage what you don't measure".
2. Tony Abate<https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-abate-48919020/>, CTO, Atmosair: Tony will discuss ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation requirements, calculation methods, and introduce AtmosIQ software that can be used to assess air purification systems.
3. Andrew Mondell<https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-mondell-pe-37490418/>, Business Development Manager, Trane: Andrew will discuss the impact of modifying existing equipment based on current recommendations. He will also introduce the Trane Catalytic Air Cleaning System.
