Description:

Learn how to successfully daylight buildings through the use of web-based computer modeling. During the first part of this session, challenges for building an easy to use, but high quality daylight tool are presented. Types of daylight analyses will be shown through small case studies. This will include ways of measuring the diurnal nature of daylight, the LEED and WELL certification system, and dynamic building products.

It will be followed by a demonstration of leading edge daylight design methods from schematic design to construction documents using web-based software. Participants will learn how to use their own 3D models to generate presentation-quality renderings and animations, false color analyses, and daylight glare probability scores. Attendees will also learn how to measure illuminance in the form of full-day animated illuminance grids, annual metrics, and even LEED v3 or v4 scorecards. The class will also show how users can apply daylighting strategies such as dynamic glass, daylight redirecting film, dynamic blinds, and more for a holistic, strategic, healthy, and beautiful daylight design.

Bio:
Daniel Glaser Ph.D.
Daniel Glaser is the Founder and Principal of LightStanza. Dr. Glaser leads its R+D efforts, recognized by Innovation Research Grants awarded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Glaser is a frequent speaker at major industry venues including Greenbuild, LightFair International and the DOE Radiance Workshop on daylight metrics, web-based simulation tools, and daylight technologies.
Sydney Nelson
Sydney plays an integral role in bridging the gap between design and engineering by leading product iterations and implementing designs using HTML, CSS, and AngularJS. She is also involved in the integration of digital marketing materials. She received her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Media Arts Practices, along with a Minor in Technology, Arts, & Media from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Sydney is a Colorado native who loves cats, golfing, and digital art.
