[Bldg-sim] Help Wanted: RMI Senior Associate Built Environment

RMI is seeking exceptional candidates to fill a Senior Associate position within our Buildings Practice, which focuses on commercial and institutional building efficiency.  A background in building energy engineering and familiarity with mechanical systems is desired.  The position will involve building performance analysis and related on-site field work.  It may also include involvement in other practices focused on solar energy systems, industrial efficiency, transportation and sector integration with the electricity system.

With a deep history of leadership evidenced by over three decades redefining how buildings are designed, operated and occupied, RMI's Built Environment team is uniquely positioned to drive impact in the buildings sector. The Buildings practice has a comprehensive approach to scaling impact that will increase demand for efficient, instrumented, and interactive buildings by demonstrating exceptional value - shifting the paradigm from building energy use as a cost to building energy systems as assets and even sources of income. 

To support these initiatives, the Sr. Associate will be involved in a variety of projects, some of them at or "beyond" state of the art.  Anticipated day-to-day activities include analyzing building performance, participating in on-site surveys and audits, developing energy models, performing life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and conducting general data analysis.  Due to our non-profit status, a majority of our budget comes from donor contributions.  As a result, RMI continually strives to achieve measurable success in our work.  This Senior Associate will support RMI efforts to demonstrate, replicate and communicate the success of projects to industry and donor audiences.

The key job responsibilities of a Senior Associate include:

Provide core research on projects 
Design and create approaches and quantitative models to effectively address key questions and challenges posed by our research goals and clients. 
Develop hypotheses to guide work, and propose new ways to analyze problems. 
Structure and guide the work of more junior team members. 
Synthesize recommendations into clear and compelling presentations and written reports. 
Present quantitative information in a clear, visual format. 
Engage with external experts and stakeholders through conference presentations, topical expertise for media requests, outreach to RMI donors, and direct collaboration on RMI research. 
Qualifications

A successful candidate for this position will have an understanding of building science and demonstrated ability to work effectively with other team members.  He or she should also have experience using spreadsheets and building modeling tools to analyze and improve building performance, in either academic, research or business settings.  Knowledge and experience in many (but not necessarily all) of the following areas are considered:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar 
3-5 years professional experience in building performance analysis 
Strong background in building science and experience in energy analysis methods 
Application of life cycle costs analysis 
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to construct analytic models 
Excellent writing and presentation skills 
Well versed in word processing and design software (Word, PowerPoint, AutoCad) 
Desired:

Experience with large scale data analysis using programs such as R or similar
Experience with Sketch-Up, EnergyPlus and OpenStudio or other building simulation tolls
Understanding of daylighting design concepts and experience with daylighting analysis tools 
Programming skills
Mechanical design experience
Experience with LEED rating system and relevant ASHRAE standards 
EIT professional designation
