IBPSA-USA San Francisco Chapter welcomes you all to the September 2015 event:
This month we are very excited to havemultiple speakers on a hot VRF topic: John Falese, NSW, Siwei Li, Daikin NA and Liam Buckley from IESve will present about the latest software technology, recent developments and modeling applications and code compliance for VRF Systems in 2015-see attached flyer for more info on the content and the logistics.
Speakers bios:
Mr. John Falese started as Director of Training for Norman S. Wright in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2013. His responsibilities include management of the company’s Training and Research Center in Oakland, California, conducting technical training and certification courses for contractors and consulting engineers, and managing field technical support for a variety of mechanical systems. With over 30 years of commercial HVAC experience, John’s background is in custom HVAC equipment, controls, and HVAC service. In addition to extensive experience with the Daikin DIII-Net controls system, John is certified and/or experienced in Tridium Niagra, Robertshaw/Siebe DMS350, Johnson Metasys, Honeywell CARE/Spyder, and Governair’s Automated Logic controller. John attended LaSalle College (Philadelphia, PA) and Diablo College (Concord, CA) and served in the United States Navy.

Dr. Siwei Li received her Bachelor and Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from China and the Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, with an emphasis in Architectural Engineering. Her previous researches mainly focused on high performance building technologies and she has gained substantial experiences in building energy modeling and HVAC systems, including modeling theory, various approaches and different modeling tools. She is now working as the application engineer at Daikin North America with a dedicated focus on Energy Modeling. One of her major responsibilities is to provide an overall visibility to the various energy modeling tools for VRV systems and perform energy analysis of how Daikin VRV systems compared to other typical HVAC solutions.

Mr. Liam Buckley, C.Eng., MIEI, Member ASHRAE, BEMP, is a Business Development Manager with IES and a Project Manager with IES-Consulting. Liam’s consulting work includes lighting design, daylighting, natural ventilation, CFD airflow, HVAC, renewable energy and whole-building energy simulation and optimization. Liam has 10 years’ experience with MEP/HVAC Engineering design and building performance modeling, certification and code compliance. Examples include design charrettes for LEED and California’s Title 24 Code Compliance. Liam’s business development work with IES’ technology has included implementation of simulation-based building energy prediction processes with the top architectural and engineering firms in the world, as well as some governmental and utility agencies. As an expert in the industry, Liam has trained hundreds of energy consultants in California on Title 24 Compliance of non-residential buildings, primarily through California’s Public Utilities. In North America, Liam has trained thousands of engineers, architects, sustainability consultants, professors, students and utility incentive providers on various technical elements of ‘Building Energy Performance and Simulation’. Liam has written multiple technical papers and presented at significant industry events, such as CIBSE, CIBSE/ASHRAE, CABEC, eSim, ASHRAE Energy Modeling and ASHRAE High Performance Building Conferences. Liam is a Chartered Engineer in Ireland and the UK, an ASHRAE Member, and is an ASHRAE-certified Building Energy Modeling Professional.

If you are planning to attend in person, please RSVP John Adkins at jadkins at norman-wright.com (space is limited up to 35 people, first come first serve)

Dear colleagues,

I am conducting a survey to better understand assumptions that building simulation users make about occupants and occupant behaviour. This is part of International Energy Agency - Energy in Buildings and Communities Annex 66. I'd be greatly appreciative if you would take 15 minutes and fill out the survey. For your effort, you have a chance to win a prize (see below) and you will have access to the aggregate survey results in 2016.

Please find the survey link and notice below.

Many thanks,

Liam O'Brien, PhD
Assistant Professor
Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering
Carleton University

----------------------

The goal of this brief anonymous 38-question survey, aimed at practitioners (architects, engineers, other building modellers), is to inform researchers and software tool developers of current practices and attitudes about occupant modelling. Researchers are welcome to participate, but their responses may not be used in this study. The results will be securely and anonymously stored. Your information will not be shared with anyone. A summary of the aggregate results will be publicly released in approximately Summer 2016.

When the survey closes (anticipated November 2015), the participants who provide an email address at the end of the survey will be randomly selected to win one of the following generously donated prizes:

	* 2 copies of the book “Modeling, Design, and Optimization of Net-Zero Energy Buildings” edited by Andreas Athienitis and William O’Brien. 396 pages.
	* 1 copy of the book “Building Performance Simulation for Design and Operation”, edited by Jan Hensen and Roberto Lamberts
	* 1 one-year subscription to the Journal of Building Performance Simulation
	* 3 BeeWi Bluetooth color LED smart light bulbs
	* 4 hard copies of “Daylight in Buildings - A source book on daylighting systems and components”
	* 2 copies of the printed proceedings of SimAUD 2015 (Symposium on Simulation for Architecture and Urban Design)
Thanks for your time, in advance.
