Thanks to everyone's responses on this topic - I've prepared a list of
some available products (certainly not exhaustive) - hopefully this will
be helpful to some!
*************************************************
Summary of green insulation products:
1. BioBased Insulation
a. Soy based spray insulation foam
b. R3.83 per inch
c. High Fire Rating (Class 1)
d. Approved by the ICC, IBC, IRC and UBC
e. http://www.biobased.net/
2. EMEGA Biopolymers, LLC
a. Soy based spray insulation foam
b. R3.6 per inch
c. High Fire Rating (Class 1)
d. Not sure about codes
e. http://www.emegabiopolymers.com/
3. Soyol
a. Soy based foam and rigid insulation (2 different products)
b. R3.7 per inch
c. High Fire Rating (Class 1)
d. Not sure about codes
e. http://www.soyoyl.com/products/soytherm.asp
4. Mineral fiber wool insulation made from recycled slag
a. Mineral wool made from recycled slag (not rock!) contains an
average of 75% post-industrial recycled content. It doesn't require
additional chemicals to make it fire resistant
b. R3.7 to R4.2 per inch
c. Meets building and fire codes
d. http://www.thermafiber.com/default.asp?PageIndex=574 (80%
recycled content)
5. Cotton batt insulation is manufactured from post-industrial
denim and cotton fibers
a. R3.4 per inch
b. Meets building and fire codes
c. http://www.idahoblue.com/
A few options from Europe....
6. Sheep's wool insulation

Also, if you have to go with a standard foam insulation, there are 2 new
types of foam insulations that do not use CFCs or HCFCs:
1. Icynene
a. Icynene is a foaming agent that uses a mixture of carbon dioxide

paceid=2&subid=13> and water. Though it does not have polyurethane's
HCFC-related environmental problems, it also has a lower insulation
rating (R-value). Like polyurethane, Icynene is foamed into wall
cavities, but the resultant open-cell foam is soft, not rigid.

2. Air Krete
a. Air Krete(tm) is an inorganic foam produced from magnesium oxide
(derived from sea water). It is foamed under pressure with a microscopic
cell generator and compressed air; no CFCs or HCFCs are used.
