[Equest-users] renaming space area types

Understood - I do most of my system edits in detailed mode. But if it
was as simple as making a ONE TIME edit to a DLL to include more
activity areas, AND this could be distributed to other people, I would
be willing to spend some time to edit the DLL. Of course, decompiling a
DLL doesn't always work...it would be interesting to see if the list of
activity areas is a simple text/list portion of a specific DLL.

at this point in time renaming happens in DDedit mode. Would be nice
to have the function to name our own spaces in the wizard (someday
maybe---fingers crossed.) But remember, any good energy model and any
good energy modeler will move thier model into DDedit mode to finish the
detailed inputs and create any type of compliance model. The wizards
just make too many assumptions and lock out too many detailed inputs
(case-in-point) to perform a quality whole building energy simulation
(i.e. project is in 75 % DD or later in design stage.)
I am not 'bashing' the wizards in anyway, they are very useful to
getting a model setup and make many steps of building a whole building
model very efficient & less time-intensive than somethings compared to
ddedit mode. In the long run, DDedit mode is where you want to be to
use the full range of capabilities built into eQuest.

To my knowledge it is not possible to rename the space type within the
wizard. It can be done in detailed edit mode if you go to the
properties for the space under the building shell tab.
Hope that helps,

Does anyone know if it's possible to rename space area types in the
"Activity Areas Allocation" page?
Whenever I'm entering stairs and elevator shafts, I end up having to
assign them to "unknown" and "all others" since those are the two
non-descript activity areas available. It's not a big deal to remember
that "unknown" is stairs and "all others" is shafts, but it would make
it more readable if we could rename space types.
I tried modifying the "unknown" space activity allocation in the .pd2
file, but all that did was force the wizard to use the original space
type listed for that line (conference).
Seems like it's probably a programming item within eQuest, but just
wanted to see if anyone else had luck doing this.
I'd be willing to work with a DLL decompiler if the information on the
activity areas is within one of them...just don't know where to start.
Thanks!
