[Equest-users] Baseline Lighting Power/Schedule

As a follow up on the Baseline Lighting Power/Schedule questions;
Lets assume Option 1 below for the Baseline Model: (no power factor adjustments to the Table 9.6.1 lighting power densities of spaces requiring Mandatory automated controls of ASHRAE 90.1 Section 9.4).
For the Proposed Building Model, I see two options;
Option A: Apply the Power Adjustments of Table G3.2 to the installed lighting power densities in all spaces installed with, but NOT requiring, mandatory automated controls per ASHRAE 90.1, Section 9.4. Assume the same typical schedule of ramping up in the morning, dipping for lunch, and ramping down after closing as the Baseline.
Option B: Apply the Power Adjustments of Table G3.2 to the installed lighting power densities in ALL spaces installed with automated controls. Assume the same typical schedule of ramping up in the morning, dipping for lunch, and ramping down after closing as the Baseline.
Option A seems the logical approach by taking credit in only the additional spaces. That means the Power Adjustments for Automatic Lighting Controls in Table G3.2 applies only to spaces not requiring automatic mandatory controls of Section 9.4.
Any other opinions?

Hi Brett,
I agree with your interpretation (1.), below, for the baseline. Then you apply the Table G3.2 power adjustment to the proposed building for spaces that have occupancy sensors, as described in Table G3.1, No 6(g)., using the same lighting schedule as the baseline but with the as-designed lighting power.

I would like the opinions of others regarding the interpretation of the Baseline Building Performance Lighting of Table G3.1 in Appendix G.
Table G3.1, Item 6. Baseline Lighting, last sentence states the following;
"No automatic lighting controls (e.g. programmable controls or automatic controls for daylighting utilization) shall be modeled in the baseline building design, as the lighting schedules used are understood to reflect the mandatory control requirement in this standard."
I am questioning 2 ways to interpret this in the model. I will use a 10,000 sf office building with typical business hours of operation from 8 am to 6 pm. Most spaces are required to have automatic lighting controls as specified in the Mandatory Provisions of Section 9.4 (ASHREA 90.1).
1. The Baseline lighting schedule would typically ramp up starting at maybe 6 am, dip for lunch, and ramp down until maybe 8 pm? The maximum power density would be that allowed using the space-by-space method and Table 9.6.1 in ASHRAE 90.1.
2. The Baseline lighting schedule would ramp up starting at maybe 6 am, dip for lunch, and ramp down until maybe 8 pm (typical scheduling)? The maximum power density would be that allowed using the space-by-space method and Table 9.6.1 in ASHRAE 90.1. with the 10% Power Adjustment factor of Table G3.2 applied to the lighting demand of spaces required to have mandatory controls of Section 9.4.
I have typically used option 1 without question from the USGBC which increases savings, but was wondering how others have interpreted it.
Are occupancy sensors "programmable controls" - delay time?
